Geovision Surveillance System Live Web Page Video Feed

Chat TranscriptCan a Geovision surveillance system be used to display live video from security cameras on a web page?  This is the topic of discussion of thie email transcript with a customer.

Support Email from Customer:

Hello.

I have a PTZ camera using the RS 485 protocol. I would like to create a website like
http://www.africam.com/wildlife/index.php
where I can stream the live video feed online, and view full-screen (using the WinMedia player as the africam site does). I would be creating a page with ads around the video feed. I would ALSO like to control the PTZ functions remotely.  As a possible feature which may be the deal breaker on what equipment we buy, we would like the users to be able to control the pan tilt and zoom of the security camera, and allow us (administrators) to over-ride the control to trump the Internet viewer's ability to control the camera. This is possibly a feature that we can wait to add at a later time. Can you help?

Here is a quick list of what I would want the hardware/software to do:

  • stream mpeg-4 video (or whatever can be used for windows media player?) online
  • allow video to be embedded to a custom site/page
  • remote PTZ control
  • compatibility with more than just IE  - why is it that they all seem IE only?

THANKS A TON!!!

Email Response from CCTV Camera Pros:

Thanks for contacting CCTV Camera Pros.  I believe that you can do everything that you mentioned below using a Geovision system, but you may still rely on Internet Explorer because of the dependancy on Active X controls.

Please check out these Geovision systems:

and this PTZ camera:

Here are Geovision instructions on setting up the PTZ:

Last, in order to display the video feed directly on a website page, I believe that you will need a developer to use the Geovision SDK (software development kit) which you can obtain through request from the manufacturer here:

http://www.geovision.com.tw/english/4_3.asp

CCTV Camera Pros has not yet had a chance to experiment with the SDK so unfortunately I can not help you with that at this time.  It is something that we have planned for the future.  There are some customer surveillance applications that we plan on building when we have the opportunity to.

In regards to your other questions you had:

>>As a possible (may be the deal breaker on what equipment we buy) feature, we would like the users to be able to control the camera, and allow us (administrators) over-riding control to trump the Internet viewer ability to control camera. Possibly a feature to add at a later time. Can you help?

Geovision does allow you to configure guest users.  I am not 100% sure how the admin override works.  I do know that you can limit the time guest users have control.

>>stream mpeg-4 video (or whatever can be used for windows media player?) online allow video to be embedded to a custom site/page

Geovision can stream MPEG-4 video over the Internet.  You can find setup instructions for remote web access here:
http://www.cctvcamerapros.com/Geovision-WebCam-Server-Setup-s/124.htm

Again though, if you want the stream directly on an HTML web page, then you will need some custom programming done via the Geovision SDK.

The Geovision webcam server system must be accessed via Internet Explorer because it uses Active X.  I am not sure if the SDK gets around this issue.  I suspect that IE is still a requirement but I am not 100% sure.

If you think this is a possible solution for you, let me know.  CCTV Camera Pros will be happy to help research this further with you.  We are very interested in this application ourselves.

Thanks.
