- What is an AI security camera? - AI security cameras are specialized network IP cameras that perform advanced analytical functions such as vehicle detection, person / human detection, face detection, traffic counting, people counting, and license plate recognition (LPR). These artificial intelligence functions are achieved using highly advanced video analytics software that is built-in to the camera and recorder they are connected to. For example, when a person enters a certain zone of an area under surveillance, recording can be triggered on the DVR. An alarm can also be triggered such as a push notification to the Viewtron mobile app.
- How are AI security cameras used? - One of the most popular uses for AI cameras is human detection. You can setup intrusion zones so that when a human is detected penetrating the intrusion zone, an alarm is triggered that can start video recording on the NVR, bookmark the event and also send a mobile app push notification to iPhone and Android phones. Other popular uses for Viewtron AI cameras include vehicle detection / intrusion, line crossing detection, face recognition, and license plate reader / automatic number place recognition.

- Can Viewtron AI cameras be used with hybrid DVRs? - Unfortunately not. Although all Viewtron IP cameras are compatible with our Viewtron hybrid BNC DVRs, the AI software is ONLY included on the NVRs.
- What about 3rd party NVRs? Is the AI functionality compatible with NVRs from other manufacturers? - Unfortunately, not. You must use a Viewtron IP camera NVR if you want to take advantage of the AI software built into these cameras.
- Are 4K resolution AI cameras available? - Yes. CCTV Camera Pros has a dome and bullet style 4K AI security cameras available.
- Are Viewtron AI cameras NDAA compliant? - Yes. Most of them are. You can find all of our NDAA compliant cameras here.
- Do the camera models with built-in audio surveillance microphones require additional cable? - No. The audio from the built-in microphones runs over the network using the existing network cable that the camera uses for video and PoE.
- Does the people detection work with children and toddlers? Yes. The human detection function works with small and large people.
- Does the human and vehicle detection work in zero light environments? Yes. You can setup human detection and car detection in areas with low light and even zero light. - I see how to setup an intrusion zone by drawing a rectangle in the NVR AI camera settings. Is there a way to have the entire camera’s entire field of view detect humans and vehicles without having to draw a smaller rectangle to specify the intrusion zone? Yes. On the Viewtron NVR, when you set up the intrusion zone for human and/or vehicle detection, you can specify the entire camera view as the detection zone. You do not need to limit the intrusion zone to a smaller area. You can select the entire screen as the intrusion zone.
- Instead of continuous video recording, can you record only when alarm events are triggered? Yes, you can setup recording only when events occur, such as object detection. Or you can record 24/7 at a lower resolution and frame rate and higher resolution and frame rate during AI triggered alarm events like people detection. Many customers setup AI recording plus 24 / 7 video recording. This makes it very easy to locate any AI software detected events when searching through recorded video surveillance footage. - Are there any ongoing subscription or software licensing fees? No, there is not any type of maintenance or software license fees.
- Can the camera data be accessed outside the local network (LAN)? Remote access to view your cameras is 100% optional. It is up to you if you want to enable remote access from the mobile apps for PC software. And if you do, a user name and password is required to access.
- Is there any dependency on any external servers / cloud service for the AI functions? No. Viewtron surveillance systems are self contained. All of the software runs on the IP cameras and NVR. Neither of which need to be connected to the Internet.
- Can I use AI cameras on all NVR channels? Yes. Our 8ch, 16ch, and 32ch NVRs support AI cameras on all channels.
- How much hard drive space do I need on the DVR? The amount of hard drive space you need for video storage will vary based on the following: number of cameras, resolution of cameras, video frame rate of cameras, activity level of each camera, and video compression used. You can use our online hard drive space calculator for Viewtron DVRs and NVRs here to accurately estimate how much video storage space you will need.
- Does CCTV Camera Pros have any active alarm security cameras with AI? Yes. We have Viewtron AI security cameras that have built-in audio warnings and alarm lights. The audio warning and lights can be turned on automatically when any of the supported AI events occur. For example, human detection, vehicle detection, face detection, facial recognition. - Can I use these AI cameras without an NVR? Yes. Viewtron AI cameras can be used stand-alone without an NVR. You can access all of the camera's functions via a web browser. However, CCTV Camera Pros does highly recommend using a Viewtron NVR with our AI cameras because they are much easier to setup ad maintain on the NVR. Also, if you plan on using more than one camera, an NVR will definitely make the most sense.
- Can I get a push notification on my phone when an alarm is triggered by my security camera? Yes. All of the AI object detection events supported by Viewtron AI cameras support the ability to trigger a push notification to the Android and iPhone mobile apps. You can get a push notification on your phone when any of these events occur: human detection / human intrusion, car detection / vehicle intrusion, face detection, face recognition, license plate detection, license plate recognition. - Can a single AI camera perform more than one type of AI function simultaneously? No. Each AI camera can only perform one type of AI function. For example, one camera CAN NOT be setup to perform facial recognition detection and vehicle detection simultaneously at the same time.
- Do all Viewtron AI cameras support license plate recognition and detection? No. Only our specialized LPR camera supports license plate recognition and detection. You can find more information and complete license plate recognition systems here.

Viewtron IP camera NVRs support all of the AI functions that you see below. If you want to install a video surveillance system with multi-camera recording, and that also takes advantage of all of the artificial intelligence software functions built into these cameras, CCTV Camera Pros highly recommends that you install Viewtron AI cameras with a Viewtron network video recorder. We have a few complete AI systems available above, and we can also provide a custom design and quote for you based on your specific requirements. Please mention on your request that you want to use AI cameras.
Please note that although our
Viewtron hybrid BNC DVRs also support IP cameras, they DO NOT support the AI functions of Viewtron AI cameras. You MUST use a pure NVR for AI.

The vehicle detection function of Viewtron AI cameras is much more reliable than video motion technique used by a non-AI camera. Traditional video motion detection produces a lot of false alerts. A well trained AI camera can detect cars and motorcycles in real time and with 99% accuracy. Object detection events can trigger alarms such as video recording, mobile app push notifications, DVR buzzer, photo snapshots, and email alerts. Human Line Crossing Event Triggers Alarm Output
Here is another human / person detection AI alarm. Watch this video to see how Mike setup a line crossing / virtual trip wire alarm (with person detection) to trigger an alarm that turns an external strobe light on. The strobe light is connected to one of the alarm output ports on the Viewtron NVR.

Human/ Person Detection
The person detection function of Viewtron AI cameras works the same as vehicle / car detection. An intrusion zone is mapped out on the DVR interface. The only difference is that human detection is selected in the setup, instead of vehicles. The red rectangle is the intrusion zone in in the above screenshot. You can see when Mike crosses over the intrusion zone, he is detected as a human and an alarm event is triggered. This

The face detection function of Viewtron AI cameras makes it easy to trigger alarms based on a human face appearing within the view of the camera. The above screenshot was captured using a
Viewtron IP-A4D dome AI camera connected to a
Viewtron IP camera NVR. When a face is detected, the event is recorded in the NVR's database. Thumbnail images can be displayed (like you see above) for easy access to playback the recorded video of the facial detection.
Viewtron license plate recognition cameras (LPR) are designed to detect when vehicle license plates enter a defined area. The LPR system tested in the above video used a Viewtron
LPR-IP7 license plate AI camera connected to a
Viewtron IP camera NVR. When a plate is detected, the event is bookmarked, a snapshot is taken, and video is recorded on the NVR's hard drive. Thumbnail images can be displayed on the live video view (like you see above) for easy access to playback the recorded video of the license plate capture.
In addition to detecting license plates, the LPR-IP7 is also an ANPR camera (automatic number plate recognition). Number plate recognition and license plate database applications are possible when you connect a LPR-IP7 to a Viewtron NVR. The above ANPR database screenshot was captured from a Viewtron NVR. Please note that Viewtron BNC hybrid DVRs do not support LPR and other AI functions.You must use a
