LinkSys WRT54G Static IP Setup

Chat TranscriptLinksys WRT65G static IP address setup is the topic of discussion for this technical support chat.  This customer was running into problems when his router would loose power or reset, his DVR would be assigned a different internal IP address using DHCP.  The solution is to configure the router to always assign the same IP address to the surveillance DVR.

Transcript:

Customer: when my LinkSys router is turned off and on it resets the  IP address for the devices attached and clobbers my remote viewer access. Is their a way to use the mac address instead of the IP to prevent me from going back into port forward to change to the new IP?

Support: Yes. Most routers do support assigning static internal IP addresses to network devices.

Customer: do you have directions on your site to do this?

Support: Go to: http://www.cctvcamerapros.com/Internet-Surveillance-Setup-s/156.htm

Under the static DHCP section, we have instructions for a few types of routers. What type of router do you have?
