Geovision Recording Frame Rate & Windows Vista Support
The following transcript contains a dialog we had with a potential customer that had questions about Geovision DVR cards & building a Geovision system.
Transcript Customer: Do Geovision cards work with Windows Vista?
2nd Shift Support: Yes. The latest software version of Geovision 8.12 is compatible with vista. All of the cards that we stock include the 8.12 version software. It comes on a CD in the box. Also, all of the complete Geovision systems and Geovision PC based DVRs that we build are built with Windows Vista now so we are very experienced with this.
Customer: Great. The Geovision GV-600-8 cards say 30 frames per second recording. Is this 30 fps per channel?
2nd Shift Support: The GV-600-8 is 30 FPS for the entire card.
2nd Shift Support: 30FPS / # of cameras
Customer: okay so a 240fps 8 channel card would render 30fps per channel?
2nd Shift Support: that is correct
Customer: What about viewing the cameras on a screen, what is the quality per channel?
2nd Shift Support: let me check. one sec
Customer: thanks
2nd Shift Support: on most cards, the recording rate and display rate are the same. There are some exceptions.
Geovision GV 1120 series: # Total Recording Rate: 120 fps NTSC, 100 fps PAL # Display Rate: 240 fps NTSC, 200 fps PAL although looking at that, the display spec does not seem right. I think that it should be 200 fps PAL display rate. are you looking for home or business?
Customer: this is for a business surveillance system. what does PAL mean?
2nd Shift Support: NTSC and PAL are the american and european display standards I believe. I can look up the definition if that is important. We probably have it in our cctv glossary.
Customer: not important. is the version 8 software that comes with the cards a full or limited version?
2nd Shift Support: I am not aware that there even exists a limited version. Have you seen this somewhere?
Customer: no, just making sure.
2nd Shift Support: have you worked with Geovision already?
Customer: no. I have not, I just heard they were one of the best. What is your opinion?
2nd Shift Support: They are very solid. The software works excellent.
2nd Shift Support: We recently did a few installations with a PTZ cameras. One in North Carolina and one in Florida.
Customer: sweet. Is the software easy to learn?
2nd Shift Support: if you are patient enough to read and your interested enough, it is very easy. There is a lot on it though. Many configuration options. some options that most businesses will never use.
Customer: I have been asked to build an 8 channel rack server DVR for an Alarm Dealer and thought the Geovision would be a good choice. I just needed a little help on the specs.
2nd Shift Support: yes, geovision is a great choice. Do you build server racks now? I can help on the specs.
Customer: A few in the past but not for DVR cards. What do you recommend?
2nd Shift Support: what is the equipment budget for the DVR?
Customer: I had quoted a tower DVR with 16 channel Geovision card and 20" LCD for 2999.00 with Pent Core 2 Duo, 2 GB RAM, 750GB HD, Win XP Pro, DVDRW,
2nd Shift Support: I would put nothing less than a Geovision GV-1120-16, I would maybe go top of the line GV-1480.
Customer: He only wants an 8 channel card in this unit
2nd Shift Support: oh, I thought we were taking about the 16 camera system you mentioned above. In that case I would put the GV-1240-8 in it then.
Customer: agreed. what about rack server recommendations
2nd Shift Support: are you asking which chassis to use?
Customer: yes, and motherboard
2nd Shift Support: Honestly, I have never built a rack mount server so I do not know about which chassis is best or what variables there are to consider.
2nd Shift Support: We built systems mainly from desktops computers. The computer specs as you mention above are very similar to what we use. except we use 320GB drives by default right now. Gateway PCs seem to work very well.
Customer: right. I guess if I stay with quality chassis and MB I'll be okay.
2nd Shift Support: Here are the system requirements: http://videos.cctvcamerapros.com/pdf/geovision/geovision-system-requirements-specs.pdf just avoid VIA motherboards as it says on the Spec. Also, if you are interested, you can refer to this page for some details on Geovision system features.
Customer: Is there a way in the Geovision software to change the frame rate individually for each camera? If so can you do time based changes. Like at night have the 4 indoor security cameras record at a higher frame rate then the interior cameras? Or can you tie it into the security system where if a trigger has occurred then the cameras near that trigger record at a higher frame rate?
2nd Shift Support: Using Geovision, you can set the recording of each camera individually in the following ways:
- Around the clock recording which means constant recording
- Motion Recording which means that the camera will only record on motion
- Day-Night recording which means that you can set a schedule which
consists of a combination of both around the clock and motion recording
at different times.
Also,
you can set the recording frame rate to be different when there is
motion vs. no motion on a per camera. For example, if you have a camera set
to around the clock recording, you can save hard drive space by making
the max record frame rate one frame per second for example, but when
there is motion you can have the frame rate increase to 10 frames per
second.
Customer: One more question please. Have you used the Internet viewing with this card?
2nd Shift Support: yes. the Internet viewing works very well. You can access the cameras in Internet Explorer via an Active X application. It looks like this: http://www.cctvcamerapros.com/geovision-remote-viewing-s/137.htm
Customer: Great. Do you have a sales rep ID so I can contact you when i purchase. I'd like for you to get the credit if possible. I appreciate all of your help.
2nd Shift Support: None of us work on commission, but feel free to contact me. My direct ext is 86. I am also often on night chat.
Customer: fantastic. You'll get my order. Your chat support has sold me. Thanks again for your help
2nd Shift Support: Your welcome. Have a great night.
